Knowledge Sharing Session Series for Mental Health Practitioners

Together with the Professional Psychological Counselors' Association (PPCA), CAN MH Lanka organises a series of knowledge-sharing sessions every 2nd and 4th Thursday from 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm.

This session series aims to empower mental health practitioners from different disciplines by providing a friendly platform to share good practices. We expect the people in need to have a better chance of having quality mental healthcare when they needed it most.

Mrs Ammarah Ashraf - Clinical Psychologist
Shanthi Margam

Ammarah Ashraf is a Psychologist with a specialization in Clinical Psychology. She recently completed her M. Phil in Clinical Psychology at the University of Colombo. She works with both children and adults. She has had experience working in the psychiatric services setting in the government sector since 2018 as she had done her internship across three teaching hospitals and community service settings.

Session 02 - Medico-legal considerations in mental health practice

Dr. Neil Fernando - Senior Lecturer - Faculty of Medicine, General Sir John Kothelawala Defense University

Dr. Fernando has been involved in the field of Mental Health since 1980. He worked as the consultant psychiatrist in charge at the Forensic Psychiatry Service of the National Institute of Mental Health, Sri Lanka, for more than a decade from 01.12.2003. Dr Neil Fernando is one of the best-known psychiatrists in Sri Lanka today. He is the pioneer in community mental health services in Sri Lanka. He is also a great communicator and has the rare ability to explain complex psychiatric issues in simple language for the layman.

Session 03 - How to guide children to achieve their career dreams

Resource Person -
Mrs. Sujatha Dissanayake - Career guidance and counseling teacher (Dedigamuwa K.V.) and the senior counseling teacher (Sri Jayawardenapura Education Zone).

Mrs. Sujatha Dissanayake is a counselling teacher with experience of 32 years as a teacher. She is graduated from the University of Kelaniya and is an experienced counsellor and drama therapist.
